About Acupuncture
Acupuncture treats pain, heals diseases, and improves your overall health and wellbeing. Through multiple diagnostic methods, an acupuncturist determines your specific “pattern of disharmony” or “dis-ease”, and chooses acupuncture points which will signal your body how to return to a harmonious state. Thin, sterile, single-use needles are quickly inserted into these points to adjust the flow of energy, or qi, encouraging this shift towards a healthy, dynamic state of balance.
What does acupuncture treat?
Regarded by the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the world’s few complete systems of medicine, acupuncture and Chinese herbs can effectively treat a wide variety of conditions, including, but not limited to:
Initial Consultation & Treatment
As a patient, you are heard, and your experiences are honored. The first visit is approximately
90-120 minutes, and includes an in-depth consultation and evaluation, as well as a complete treatment. You have the time you need, as well as my undivided attention, as you tell me all the pertinent information about yourself and your condition. Any questions or concerns you may have about acupuncture or related modalities will be fully addressed before proceeding, and then you will have about 20–30 minutes to relax while receiving your first treatment.
Follow-Up Treatments
Follow-up treatments are generally about an hour. Together, we evaluate your progress and discuss any changes to symptoms, comparing them to the baseline from your previous visit.
Then, I design a treatment customized to specifically address your current symptoms, as well as your underlying constitution. You receive the treatment, relaxing on the table for the remainder of the time (usually 20–30 minutes). As time allows, associated modalities may be used, when indicated.
Associated Modalities
The following modalities may be used, either singly or in combination, to treat the individual needs of each patient:
The Dr. Tan Balance Method
A style of acupuncture handed down by renowned practitioner Dr. Richard Tan, the Balance Method is well-known for highly effective treatments utilizing the fewest needles possible. Renowned for quick results in the treatment of pain conditions, the Balance Method is equally effective in treating issues of internal medicine.
Prenatal & Postpartum Acupuncture
Pregnancy is an experience of exquisite transformation, both joyful and challenging. Acupuncture, as an adjunct to standard prenatal care from your OBGYN or midwife, can be used to help relieve discomforts and prepare you for childbirth, optimizing your health and supporting you through this major life transition.
