Vitamins & Supplements
Modern research is continuously proving the importance of supplementing our diets with high-quality vitamins and minerals to both maintain health and to prevent disease. In a 2002 article published in JAMA, authors Robert H. Fletcher, MD, MSc, and Kathleen M. The result is that what is written on a label is rarely what is actually present in the product. No matter what brand of supplement you choose, make sure that you are actually getting the vitamins and minerals you are paying for by checking that your brand meets the following standards:
- Pharmaceutical-Grade Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)—a much higher standard than the food-grade GMP required of and followed by most nutritional product manufacturers (the difference in standards from producing penicillin versus pizza)
