Welcome to AcuLaser Therapy of New York, the comprehensive Chinese medicine practice of Virginia Mims, MS, LAc.

The Chinese character for Harmony symbolizes the therapeutic
approach of this practice:
to optimize health by
facilitating harmony within one's
body, mind, spirit, and life
While most people are by now familiar with the mind-body-spirit triad, the addition of “life” into the equation often comes as a surprise. But it is simply a way of reminding us that when one’s overall life is out of balance, it greatly impacts the mind, body, and spirit. Thus attention must be paid to daily routines and choices, with the goal of harmonizing lifestyle with health and wellbeing.
This, of course, is often much more difficult than regulating the flow of qi in the meridians, as modern life places unavoidable demands and stressors on us. But the theories of Chinese medicine, combined with the knowledge of modern research, provide us with a comprehensive template for balancing and optimizing one’s life and wellbeing. The first step is merely awareness, from which options will eventually and naturally emerge.
Therapeutic Options
The theories, methods, and modalities of Chinese medicine constitute a complete medical system in which each person is seen and cared for as a unique individual. Chinese medicine teaches us that symptoms and disease (or dis-ease) arise from a state of imbalance. In this practice, patient and practitioner work together to identify the specific nature of the imbalance, and then utilize the most appropriate therapies to restore harmony.
Therapeutic options may include a combination of any of the following:
- Acupuncture: the insertion of very fine, solid, sterile metal needles into specific points on the body to correct imbalances by adjusting the flow of energy, or qi. Click here to learn more!
- AcuLaser Therapy, or Laser Acupuncture: though not a traditional modality of Chinese medicine, laser
therapy is a powerful adjunctive treatment that utilizes photobiomodulation on acupuncture points and other areas of the body, to treat conditions of pain and inflammation. For more information, click here!
- Herbal Medicine: the art and science of creating complex formulations of plant, mineral, and animal products to address specific patterns of imbalance and disease. Click here for more information!
- Moxibustion: the use of heat to correct the flow of qi via the warmth of burning Artemisia over acupuncture points
- Cupping: a technique in which glass cups are placed on the body, creating a vacuum suction which removes toxins, releases stagnation, and frees the flow of qi
- Gua Sha: a gentle scraping technique that rids the body of toxins and releases area that are stagnated, or stuck, such as a painful neck or shoulders
- Tui Na: Chinese medical massage
- Lifestyle and nutritional recommendations
Through the active patient-practitioner partnership, you receive compassionate guidance, help, and support at each step of the transition towards harmony—a dynamic state of balance from which greater health naturally flows.
